  • THE STATE OF ORIGIN: Reel & Imagined
  • Migrants have always lived in more than one setting, maintaining links with a real or imagined community in the state of origin (Anderson,1983).But in the recent years they have also taken into account "the context of globalization and economic uncertainty that facilitates the construction of social relations transcending national borders". (Rivera- Salgado, 1999).(Riva Kastoryano) The development of communication, transport, trade and information networks through globalization has strengthened the connections of migrants to multiple spaces, identities, histories and cultures. Migrants cross borders, both real and imagined, creating new social realities, cultural patterns, ideas and behaviors. They transform themselves internally and their environment externally. At a pace quicker than ever before, transnational migration continues to challenges us, changing the demographics and socio-economic-cultural patterns of contemporary societies across the world.

    SCREENINGS / TALKS

Organized by The Digital Silk Route, The State of Origin: Reel & Imagined is a presentation of talks and film screenings of artists exploring socio-cultural issues such as transnationalism, identity, assimilation, citizenship and migration.
